Are you planning to visit Kenya?  You could be wondering what currency are you going to use when you arrive in Kenya,  Kenyans  use Kenya shilling as the official currency, it comes in notes of 50/=,100/=,200/=,500=/ 1000/=  and coins of  1/= 5/= 10/= 20/=

The easiest currency that you can change when you are in Kenya is the United States Dollar, Sterling pound and Euro at the bureau DE change or banks.  There are some hotels which accept foreign currencies. 

Visa cards are also accepted in major hotels and petrol stations. 

Most Kenyans send and receive money using mobile phones by using the called Mpesa platform.  We  have seen some visitors who buy lines and use the Mpesa platform when they are in Kenya.   

When you are in Kenya You can send or receive money using international money transfers such as  western union, money gram and express money in the banks or bureau exchange.  

You can also use plastic money in major hotels and curio shops and supermarkets.

Before leaving in Kenya you can exchange the Kenyan currency to your currency before leaving Kenya at the bank or bureau exchange.
